1 April 2025

01/04/2025

In a morning assembly not too long ago, I talked about weekends were for school members to relax and recharge and face the challenges in the next week. I also mentioned that a lot of services did not enjoy holidays, for example, security guards, firemen, and some we do not see on a regular basis, like members in the army.  Some of us might never have seen them before in real person, but they are there. They are there, no matter which country, to serve their own countries and protect their countrymen, territories, and interests. Such protections are also in the law. 4 April is an anniversary day for Basic Law to have adopted in 1990, and to take effect on 1 July 1997. The laws, alongside many institutions, substituted the British institutions once prevailed before the date.

There are now 20 security fields which we have to be aware of, we don’t know all the details, but I am sure they are all related to our very existence: It encompasses 20 major fields, including political security, military security, homeland security, economic security, financial security, cultural security, public security, science and technology security, cyber security, food security, ecological security, resource security, nuclear security, overseas interests security, and some emerging fields like outer space security, deep sea security, polar security, biosecurity, artificial intelligence security, and data security.  I have mentioned in different occasions that if a civilian, or a school teacher, could know all these security details, he should probably be working in a very different field.

In school, we educate students to become upright citizens, and to help others to the best they can. The 20 fields may come to them as serious matters, but they are delivered bits by bits, through everyday life examples, something they can easily understand. For example, through episodes in various disastrous movies, or as simple as password concerns, which teenagers will easily associate with military security, economic security, financial security, public security, science and technology security, cyber security, food security, ecological security, resource security, biosecurity, artificial intelligence security, and data security.

In addition to reciting the fields, students should be aware of how these fields affect their life. If water is contaminated, a lot of issues are touched on: economic security, financial security, public security, food security, ecological security, resource security, and biosecurity. Students will make use of 15 April, the national security education day, to better equip themselves to the world of security.
