I watched the movie “Anita” recently. Anita Mui is a legend in Hong Kong, she is regarded as Hong Kong’s daughter. In 1982, she joined the “TVB International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship”. Owing to her rich stage experience, she won the championship. Throughout her 21 years of singing and performing career, she broke many records. For instance, she had been the “most popular female singer” continuously for 5 years while she got “the golden needle award” at the age of 35, the youngest winner of the award ever.
Her deeds deeply impressed me. She did a lot of charity work in Hong Kong. The one which had the greatest influence was the 1:99 concert held in 2003 after the spread of SARS. She aimed at bringing new hope to every HongKonger after a downturn. Although she had been diagnosed with cancer, she still insisted on holding this concert to cheer for Hong Kong. Besides, she was very dedicated. Despite the deterioration of her health, she insisted on holding her last concert, just to farewell to the stage and to her fans. Her righteousness and giving back to Hong Kong finally made her Hong Kong’s daughter, an icon of an era.
As the president of the Student Union, I aim at bringing students back to a complete school life as well. Having the same philosophy as Anita, we, the Student Union, have already organised King Ling Olympics, Micro Film Competition, Singing Contest, and Dance Competition for students. All activities have the same purpose--to provide King Ling students with a platform to relieve stress from heavy academic pressure, and to share the fruit of class learning together.
As a student leader, I hope students can enjoy different ECA in addition to engaging in academics. Although studying is the most important task to all King Ling students, we should also learn how to relieve stress. This skill is not only useful in school, but also in the workplace. Furthermore, relieving stress is also a way to train our time management as we should devise a timetable which includes time for both learning and relaxation. There are many ways to do so, for example, joining ECA to enrich yourselves or exercising to maintain healthy lifestyle.
Exam week is near; students should develop a study plan now. I hope all students can manage your schedule well with time to relax. Don’t let unnecessary stress and fear control your life but live joyfully, and love what you study. Cheer up each day as life is beautiful.
