I received two IMC members of another school last month; we walked around campus and they asked about some administration matters of the school. After the tour, they both said that the campus enjoyed a very good environment, surrounded by greenery.  It was indeed a sunny afternoon, and an iced soft drink was a treat after the walking-up-and-down tour. But I replied, that you only knew it was in a good environment when you had visited the campus.  Otherwise, it was just an establishment of a 30-minute walk uphill from the nearest MTR station, Po Lam, or a 30-minute bus ride from Tseung Kwan O station.  Now, that changes the whole landscape of the conversation. But I added, however, if you came from Sau Mau Ping or Shun Lee, it was an easy 10-minute bus ride for most buses heading our downslope direction stop at the bus stop near us, a one-minute walk to the school gate. In that sense, we are closer to Kwun Tong than to Tseung Kwan O.

 

I do enjoy this seclusion, honestly, for it attracts like-minded, that both teachers and students are of a mild temperament, and enjoy a quiet easy lifestyle for work and study. We also learn to budget our time, for school gate is closed to everyone at 6pm every day; dilly-dallying is most undesirable. Somewhat like people commuting to and fro outlying islands on fixed schedules, that people always make good use of time, even on the ferry trips.  Once you get used to the location and schedule, you adapt.

 

There is no confusion that our school is in Tseung Kwan O, but we are much easily accessed to from Kwun Tong.  Some names of Hong Kong places, however, can totally throw you off. For example, Chai Wan Kok Street is in Tsuen Wan (not in Chai Wan), there is a Tung Lo Wan in Shatin (not the Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island, despite the same Chinese characters), a Lam Tin in Tsing Yi (rather than the one next to Kwun Tong), and a Tai Po Tsai village in Sai Kung (not in Tai Po district), and Saigon Street in Yaumatei (same Chinese characters to the NT district). And of course, King Ling Road is in Tiu Keng Leng, rather than next to our school mid-hill.

 

Don’t be surprised to find Hongkong Street in Singapore, Hong Kong Avenue in Manchester, and Hong Kong Terrace in Wales; there may be more to come.  Have I confused you thoroughly? Good. Forget about it and have a great summer.
