S1-2 Public Speaking Competition

29/06/2026

During the post-exam period, a public speaking workshop was conducted in a bid to enhance the speaking skills of S1-2 students.

On 9 July, S1 and S2 public speaking competition was held. Two contestants for prepared speech and two for impromptu speech were chosen from each class. For prepared speech, the eight contestants had to deliver a 2-minute speech based on the theme Environment Protection. For impromptu speech, the eight contestants had to give a 1.5-minute speech without any preparation. The panel of adjudicators included our English teachers and the Assistant Principal Mr Cheung KK (Geography teacher).

Having had ample chance to practise during the workshop and competition, S1-2 students learnt a wide range of public speaking skills, which could further prepare them for the speaking examination in HKDSE. Despite the fact that not all of them were used to giving impromptu speeches and only 20 words were allowed on their cue cards, most of the contestants’ performances were satisfactory. They were able to sustain their speeches with confidence and various techniques. With Audience Award, the audience could have their say in deciding who the winners were, which also facilitated peer-learning.
